My kids are on the local mountain bike team and participated in the race at Galena Lodge last weekend. The race organization that runs the race series, Idaho Interscholastic Cycling League (IICL), which is under the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), does such an amazing job throughout the year. They help establish positive methods for coaching middle school and high school youth that empower kids that just want to ride for fun and those that want to win; they set up the courses with incredible organization including start, finish, and feed zones; award ceremonies; and they bring together parent volunteers from every team to help. This last race, the Galena Gallop at Galena Lodge, went off like a Swiss watch. The course was incredibly challenging at just over 6 miles (High School boys have to do 4 laps). These kids are amazing athletes and I’m so thankful that school sports programs now include non-ball athletic endeavors!
