Backcountry skiing on Mushroom Ridge, Galena Pass, Idaho

I don’t know what you’d call this time of year: Springinter, Springember, Springuary? When NOAA reported 3 inches of snow was going to fall last night, I couldn’t help myself and had to go and see if I might actually get some powpow today! Yup. Got some! Never thought I’d break trail through powder on May 26th, not gonna complain though. NOAA was spot on with the few inches that fell, but, thanks to the wind there were a few sections holding 6″ or more!

There is still quite a bit of snow up in the mountains of Idaho and if the switch gets flicked to hot, kayakers are set for some crazy big water this year.

  1. Awesome! Not only were you skiing in May, it looks like it was actually some good skiing.
