The law of conservation of energy states that the total amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant over time (Wikipedia). The way I see it-what you put in, you’ll get out. Sarah and Devin put some great energy into planning their engagement session and I hope the images I captured are an equal return. It was a pleasure getting to know these two, talking about their love of baseball, beer, and their upcoming Yosemite Valley wedding I’m excited to be photographing. Their choice of Mendocino as home base for their portraits allowed us a great variety of locations to choose from: Glendeven Inn, my good friend Suzy Long’s watertower art studio, redwood groves, lighthouses, and the Mendocino Presbyterian Church.

This past Sunday I met up with Thuy and Gavin at their home in San Francisco from which we began a circumnavigation of the city for their engagement session. Gavin raised in San Francisco and navigated us to some places I’d never been before; always a treat. Thankfully, we dodged the stormy weather that had been inundating the city. Their story is great…Thuy was born in Vietnam, but moved to the US shortly thereafter and grew up just North of The Bay in San Rafael. Thuy and Gavin met in college and have known one another for 14 years, even roomed together, twice! As affectionate toward one another as these two birds are, I’m sure many of their friends are saying Gavin and Thuy are “finally” getting married!

Over the years, I’ve driven a certain stretch of highway over and over again going from point A to point B, always admiring the backdrops, yet rarely stopping to capture an image. Yesterday, I was fortunate that Leah and Jimmy trusted me to meet them in the middle of rural Idaho for their engagement session; the set up was a bit funny in that I sent them an email with a link to a Google Map showing a pin-drop in the middle of the state where I wanted to meet! We showed up within a few minutes of each other, cracked some beers, and chatted while the sun remained high in the sky. The next few hours were spent getting to know one another and enjoying the most random places along a very rural highway.

Leah and Jimmy were about as happy and in love as anyone can be, which made my job pretty damn easy! Their wedding is going to be a treat to photograph as well, they are getting married on the tip of Baja at the Cabo Azul Resort in San Jose del Cabo.
