Yosemite National Park Wedding photographs.

It’s difficult to call photographing “work” when Sarah and Devin are in front of the lens. Earlier this year, we met up in Mendocino to photograph their engagement session and a few weeks ago we were in Yosemite for their wedding. Needless to say, I like their taste for locations! Though Sarah had envisioned a white wedding in Yosemite National Park, she was treated to an amazing warm Fall day. She had Sorel boots as gifts for her bridesmaids and they tromped around the valley with them despite the lack of snow!

Their wedding was an intimate affair with close family and friends in attendance. Prep photos were at the Ahwahnee Hotel, their ceremony at the Yosemite Valley Chapel, and then the reception was held at the historic Wawona Hotel. It was a fantastic wedding day that flowed effortlessly. Once their reception was over, we all tried to bust it back to the valley before the 10pm cutoff as the final tunnel was going to be shut down for 2 hours for construction. We arrived at 10:07 and the road crew wouldn’t let us through. So, we kept the party going for two more hours at the road block with a portable speaker, whiskey, and lighting provided by the California Department of Transportation!

I thought I’d post this comment Sarah sent from their honeymoon visiting the National Parks in the Four Corners area of the desert southwest; it’s one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about me and my photography! Thank you Sarah!

We are currently in Colorado freezing our asses off…who knew the storm I was hoping for in Yosemite was going to roll in as we left on our Grand Circle Tour?!?!

Genuinely, we are soo thankful for your presence at our wedding, your AMAZING talent not-withstanding, you were a BRILLIANT, HILARIOUS, and WONDERFUL addition to our wedding weekend and we could not have pulled it off without you. Devin and I would also like to thank you for initiating our “tunnel party” and recording our first dance which I get to tell my grandchildren was to Sublime’s “Date Rape.” What a story that will be!

Seriously, Devin and I feel so blessed to have met you and had you as a part of our wedding. You felt much more like a guest doing us a favor than a vendor we had to cater to. If you EVER need a recommendation please feel free to give people my email, phone number, etc. I am happy to sing your praises any time that it is needed.

Sincerely,
Sarah and Devin

Engagement photo taken in the Wood River Valley of Idaho.

A few weeks back I had the great pleasure of photographing Ashley and TJ’s engagement photos. We spent the afternoon cruising around the southern portion of the Wood River Vally here in Idaho and had a great time hitting up a bunch of rural spots. Ashley and Tj are crazy fun, goofy, and head over heels in love! Their wedding is going to be held up in Ketchum next summer and I have a good feeling it’s going to be a phenomenal celebration!

A wedding ceremony at Our Lady of the Snows in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Jessie and Andy were married in the beautiful Our Lady of the Snows Catholic church in Sun Valley, Idaho, with their reception at River Run Lodge that was all smiles and good times. The toasts and roasts that were given to the couple revealed two incredibly smart and talented people with a whole lot of love for each other, their family, and friends. Their party kept going until a rose petal getaway sent Jessie and Andy off on their honeymoon!

A wedding photo taken during the Beaver Creek Fire near Sun Valley, Idaho

Any more, nothing says “Idaho” like fly fishing and fire fighting. Both themes were on display at Oliver and Becca’s wedding a few weeks back at Sun Valley’s fabled Trail Creek Cabin. Oliver’s love of fly fishing set the theme for their wedding, however, the fact that he is a fire fighter and that the Beaver Creek fire had started only three days prior to their wedding added an ironic touch! Oliver snuck out with his friends early in the morning on his wedding day to fish the Big Wood river. Luckily, he landed a 3″ trout, narrowly avoiding being skunked. But, even if he’d have walked away without a fish on his line, he had a bigger catch set for later that afternoon! The smoke stayed to the north and made the colors in the sky a eerily beautiful sight. Their celebration was perfect and the party a blast. Many congratulations Becca and Oliver!

Redfish Lake wedding near Stanley, Idaho.

Patrick and Kate were married on the east slope of the Sawtooth Mountains in the small town of Stanley, Idaho. The mountains that defined their ceremony’s backdrop and the waters that flow from them are both intimate to these two mountain people-as Patrick works as a ski guide and Kate was a professional whitewater rafting guide, now a school teacher.
I’ve been out in the backcountry skiing with Patrick and Kate works at the elementary school across the street from my house. Both are amazing people with big hearts, an amazing level of patience, and zest for adventure. Their wedding day reflected these traits, it was easy going, full of love, and lots of fun!

Wedding photograph from Galena Lodge in Idaho.

When Liana sent me an email inquiring of my wedding photography services, she said she was in Jakarta and that she was having her wedding here in Idaho, and the first thought that came to my mind was to delete the email as this had to be a scam! But, I entertained the query and replied and found that the woman from Jakarta is one of the most well traveled international aid workers around. Liana and her (now) husband, Danny, were living and working out of Jakarta and planned their Galena Lodge wedding from afar. Some couples who plan destination weddings end up becoming stress cases and I’d have thought that these two might be so inclined due to their proximity to their wedding location, but, this was not the case. They were all fun and smiles! I should note that Liana grew up in Boise and spent many days in the mountains around Galena Lodge backpacking and skiing. So, it was the perfect fit to bring her family and friends from all over the world to the place she loved first! Everything went as planned for the entire day. Many congrats Liana and Danny!

A photograph from a wedding held at Brundage Mountain Ski Area near McCall, Idaho.

The opening line to the inquiry email I received from Tamera was, and likely will be, the best ever! “Hi Craig, I’m the fiance of the guy you have a photo of doing a beer bong at Kristin and Trent’s wedding…” (photo here). It was a once in a lifetime photo and this couple is once in a lifetime too! Tamera and Mark are amazing people who love playing outdoors, so, it’s not hard to understand why they chose to be married on top of Brundage Mountain Ski Area just north of McCall, Idaho. Riding the chairlift to the peak was a fantastic experience, one many people won’t forget. When I asked one of their grandma’s about the ride up the lift, her response was classic, “TERRIFYING!” Tamera and Mark’s wedding was beautiful. One of the great moments during their ceremony was when, immediately after Tamera had put Mark’s ring on his finger, Mark went straight for the kiss! Their pastor had to throw his hand between them so he could squeeze the words in, “and now you may kiss your Bride!” Here are some images from their big day…

An Agoura Hills wedding photograph.

I just returned from Southern California, Agoura Hills to be specific, where I photographed one of my oldest friend’s wedding. Tony and I grew up together in the San Francisco Bay Area and became close friends when he, our mutual friend Kevin, and I would head into the local hills and Sierra Nevada range in search of adventures. Whether it was taking our snowboards down the ski slopes of any number of the Tahoe resorts or sand dunes near Monterrey, the three of us were having the times of our lives. In some regards, I attribute my passion toward photography to Tony and Kevin as they were the first athletes to pose for my cameras. Kevin was the first to be married and I followed leaving Tony to bring up the rear. That said, Tony had been “dating” Jenn for 10 years; as long as I’ve been married to my wife. Tony and Jenn’s wedding was phenomenal, emotional, personal, and so full of positive energy it could have lit the lights that hung from the 100 year old oak tree their reception was held under. Both the ceremony and reception were held on Jenn’s aunt’s ranch in Agoura Hills, one that used to be owned by the late Bob Hope. Jenn and Tony spent a full year landscaping their ceremony and reception spots. They built retaining walls, brought in decomposed granite, soil, grass, flowers, and an amazing amount of sweat and love. In the end, their wedding was one of the best I’ve ever been to. It’s so great to see rings on these two wonderful people’s fingers! Congrats Tony and Jenn!

Sun Valley Idaho Wedding Photograph

Lauren and Marshall’s destination wedding here in Sun Valley was one of the first of the summer season and it brought in the gorgeous weather this area is known for. A great ceremony was followed by a fun reception. Lauren’s brother killed it with his speech and had the crowd laughing hard! Uncles sang and danced like Mic Jagger, mom’s cried and recovered well during toasts, it was a great celebration.
