San Francisco Bay Area Wedding Photograph.

Yesterday, my seven year old son announced to a family friend while at a play date that he was going to marry one of the girls in his 1st grade class! It’s adorable to hear such proclamations, but, as is the case with Jenny and Beto, it could happen! Jenny and Beto have been life long sweethearts and their marriage a few weeks ago was an affirmation that they are truly soul-mates. I was impressed by their strong bond between one another, their love of family and friends, and for their shared passion for Catholicism. Their ceremony and celebration was a fantastic reflection on their adoration for each other and their guests. Many congratulations on such a phenomenal wedding Jenny and Beto!

Engagement photos from San Francisco, California.

At the end of September I flew out to San Francisco to meet Genny and Humberto to photograph their engagement session. It was an amazing day and one of the warmest I’ve ever experienced in the city. Humberto proposed under Cupid’s Span and so began our portrait session there. By the time we were above the Golden Gate in the Marin Headlands, the temps had dropped 30 degrees, the wind had come up, and it was a more typical San Francisco “summer” day. Throughout the day, it was great getting to know this couple who have ties to the same town in Mexico, have known one another since childhood, and are excited about their future together. Their wedding will be in the Bay Area this April!

A few weeks ago, I had the great fortune of photographing Billie and Jon’s San Diego wedding. Their wedding day was full of photo ops which included shooting their reveal and portraits in the amazing light around the Prado area of Balboa Park. Their ceremony and reception, held at the El Cortez, was reminiscent of photographing in the Presidio in San Francisco with the ornate wood work and art deco decor. Congrats Billie and Jon on your beautiful marriage and fantastic wedding day!

A wedding image from the Claremont in Berkeley, California

Toward the end of August Timmi and Patrick were married at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley, California. Photographing for these two was, simply put, a pleasant experience. Their warm and patient demeanor made every event on their wedding day laid back and fun. It was revealed to them that they were going to stay in the Tower Room which has access to the turret and incredible views of the surrounding Bay Area. Having driven down Tunnel Road in Berkeley and passed by the Claremont numerous times as a kid, it was cool being up in that space and it proved a fantastic portrait location! Congrats Timmi and Patrick!

Thuy and Gavin were married on Gavin’s Grandfather’s property in Lafayette, California, this past July 30th. All aspects of their big day proceeded without a hitch and their guests enjoyed perfect weather, amazing apps, dinner, and dancing. As Thuy is an elementary school teacher, it came as no surprise to anyone that kids were not only welcome at her wedding, but cherished and encouraged to participate! On a side note, for me, it was fun to be photographing a wedding a mere 10 miles from where I spent most of my childhood, Walnut Creek, with my longtime friend, Jason Seagle, who I’ve known since our time studying photography in college.

Congrats Thuy and Gavin!

In early July Mary and Steve booked me for their August 27th wedding here in Sun Valley. I was able to photograph their engagement session on July 31st as I was already in San Francisco that weekend to photograph a wedding. We met up that wintry Sunday afternoon and proceeded to have a fun photo session cruising around the Presidio. Time flies and their wedding is already only a week away!

Arriving at Northstar after a seventeen year hiatus was a shocker. The little ski area I once new was now a mini Euro-Alps style village! Flashbacks of warming my hands using the exhaust from my folks old Jeep after a day riding the backside’s tree runs were quickly erased as heavily armored downhill mountain bikers cruised through the parking lot with stone clad condo buildings towering overhead. Once I gained my bearings though, I was duly impressed. This new village is where Joelle and Martin were married and I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to document their wedding day. Joelle was a guest at Scott and Stephanie’s Lake Tahoe wedding back in 2008, and as the greatest compliment, enjoyed their images enough to hire me for her wedding!
Photographing for Joelle and Martin, meeting new friends, and seeing old friends, made for a great time. I have to say, there were some classic moments at their wedding: their officiant somehow got Joelle’s name mixed up and kept calling her, “Josie;” on the dancefloor, I witnessed the most committed intro to the worm, EVER; and Martin’s Basque cousins that hopped the pond to be there upped the energy on the dance floor! Many congratulations to Joelle and Martin!

When I was in high school, a few buddies piled into my friend Tony’s rig and headed up into the Sierra. I remember our adventure was in the South Lake Tahoe area because we took the backroads through the Central Valley as a short cut to highway 50. Long story short, Tony’s truck broke down in Lodi on the way home. Needless to say, whenever I hear Creedence Clearwater Revival’s song, “Lodi,” it takes me back to that trip. As nostalgic as that memory is, I’m glad to add new thoughts about the town of Lodi–that of Sunny and Ken’s marriage!

Sunny and Ken were married at Wine & Roses which is idyllic for weddings in the Central Valley as it combines beautiful ceremony and reception settings with high end accomodations. It was all smiles for everyone at their wedding; Sunny was so happy on her day that you’d have never known the hook at the top of her dresses zipper was missing–requiring about fifteen minutes of inventive needlework by the bridesmaids! Ken was impressive in many ways: singing to his lovely bride, twice; and the man can put down shot after shot after shot. It was a beautiful day with perfect weather–congratulations Ken and Sunny!

On June 5th, a strong breeze cleared the San Francisco Bay Area of its summer fog allowing Kineta and Aaron to be married under sunny skies on the beach near Crissy Field. Their backdrop was the iconic Golden Gate Bridge which acted as sentry to any June gloom attempting to breach its span. Aside from Kineta and Aaron’s beautiful wedding ceremony was their wild reception. They chose a nautical theme that even included a few of their guests dressing up as pirates. After the band wrapped up their sets, the DJ started spinning tunes as energy was still high and Kineta and her girls were soon dancing on tables!

Congratulations Kineta and Aaron–God Speed or Argh Matey depending on whose vessel you sail!

Wedding :: Carrie & Ryan :: Wente Vineyards, San Francisco Bay Area

On May 8th, Carrie and Ryan were married among the vineyards and mission style buildings at the beautiful Wente Winery in Livermore, California. It was a bit cold during the ceremony and their priest humorously rambled on a bit, but coincidentally, the heart of his sermon was brought up again by one of Ryan’s best men, Michael. The magic of their words talked about the definition of love and how it is one of the rare things in life that just “is.” The essense of Love, of couples like Carrie and Ryan, of soul mates, is that of their “Isness.” Maybe you can see how there were humorous moments while these two spoke of how Carrie and Ryan “is” and “are” and that there really isn’t any other way to describe the indescribable feeling they share–that which is known as “Love!”

Their “isness” resonated throughout their wedding day–from their getting ready to the closing song on the dancefloor at 1:30 the next morning!
